Gossip Girl returns on September 13th, and in this interview, Jessica Szohr, who plays the humble and “normal” Vanessa on the show talks about her beauty regimen and playlist. Also, her movie Piranha 3D hjts theaters tomorrow!
What is your beauty regimen?
Jessica: My skin is pretty sensitive, and I travel a lot, so being on flight and there’s all these germs and having makeup when you’re on set all day being reapplied all day long. A lot of times when I’m not at work I like to let my face breath and not put makeup on. I’m big on washing my face at night and using a lot of moisturizer. I try to switch every 3 or 4 months, but I like Dermalogica and Arcona and believe it or not but I saw an infomercial one night and I ordered Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford and that’s a great line as well. I’m big on going to bed with a clean face.
What is your fitness regimen?
Jessica: I enjoy yoga a lot, not even for the workout. I started doing it a couple of years ago and I could see the definition in my arms and my legs when I would do it so I felt like I was getting a good workout. On top of that, it’s so peaceful and good for my mind. I go yoga or sometimes I’ll just go to the gym in my building and put a treadmill on a big incline and walk for an hour while watching TV or reading a script or a book. Ill do that if I don’t have time to make it to a class. I try to balance out what I eat during the week. I’m not the healthiest eater, but I try to watch what I eat during the week. I kind of splurge on the weekends and eat french fries and pizza.
What’s on your playlist right now?
Jessica: I just got back from lollapalooza last night so I got to see all of the bands I’ve been listening to. I saw the Strokes, Phoenix, the Black Keys a lot right now, The Magnetic Zeros. I’m a fan of Katy Perry, “California Gurls” has been my summer song. [laughs] There’s a band called The Cult that I’ve started to listen to. I like listening to country in one breath, I like Jay-Z.
Would you like to send a message to fans of yourself and of the show?
Jessica: I’m always appreciative of fans. Without you we don’t have viewers or a job. Thank you for everything.
Are you on any social networking sites?
Jessica: Nope, nothing. I know there are fake ones, though.

Read Jessica’s thoughts on the upcoming season of Gossip Girl, her character Vanessa (including Dan), and her soon-to-be released film Piranha 3-D!
TV Fanatic Exclusive: Gossip Girl Star Jessica Szohr Talks Dan, Vanessa and Piranha 3-D
The much-maligned Vanessa Abrams has struggled at times to find a foothold on Gossip Girl. Will the new season change all that? What is in store for this controversial character?
We asked Jessica Szohr about that ourselves!
In an exclusive interview, TV Fanatic spoke to her briefly about the fallout from last season and we can expect come September, plus her new role in the film Piranha 3-D …
TVF: Last season Gossip Girl ended with Vanessa in Haiti. Without giving too much away, what can we look forward to this upcoming season?
Jessica Szohr: She comes back and right before the season ended she was left a text from Nate saying that something might be going on with Dan and Serena, so she’s coming back to sort that out. We don’t know really know if she wants to be with Dan or if she doesn’t want to sort it out, but then of course because its Gossip Girl, she comes home and there’s a whole other situation in front of her when she gets back that she has to deal with, with Dan and a guest star character. A couple episodes in, we start to see if she’s going to work this out with him or not or if there’s someone else in her life. A lot of stuff happens in the first four episodes. There’s a lot of shocking moments, a lot of “OMG” moments, and the fashion is wonderful again, and the music is great. I know that doesn’t give much, but it’s basically drama, breakups, relationships and new guest stars. Definitely a lot of shocking moments again.

Growing up in Wisconsin, Jessica Szohr never thought she’d be a famous New Yorker. But the 25-year-old actress, who plays alt-Brooklynite Vanessa in “Gossip Girl,” can’t walk a block in the Meatpacking District without being hounded by fans. When she’s not being followed by admirers, Szohr is swimming from carnivorous prehistoric fish. Her movie “Piranha 3D” hits theaters Friday.
To film “Piranha 3D” you must have spent a lot of time in a lake. Are you a good swimmer?
I can save myself, but I’m not the best swimmer. I’m from Wisconsin, and I love snowboarding, hiking, yoga and soccer. I love going to the beach and laying out, but I’m always like, “What’s underneath me? What’s going to happen?” Lakes are very eerie, because you can’t see what’s underneath the water, especially when you’re filming at two in the morning. There were times when I was really freaking scared. I didn’t know what was going on; it was dark and cold.
You weren’t in the water with real piranhas, so what did the director do to imitate the fish?
There were times when the fish were grabbing me and so they put people with green gloves on underneath the water and had them grab at my ankles. They were actually really grabbing me. There’s also a scene where I’m in a boat that’s sinking and I have to fight these piranhas off with a frying pan. A couple of stunt guys shot water guns at me so I knew where to aim with the pan.

Jessica Szohr has a lot going for her. The 25-year-old avtress is gorgeous (People magazine named her among their list of 2010′s Most Beautiful People in the World), she plays Vanessa on TV’s hit show “Gossip Girl” and she has a movie – Piranha 3D – out this month.
iheartradio sat down with Jessica to talk about her new film, hit show, what she’s afraid of, shooting make-out scenes and much more!
On whether Piranha 3D is a horror film or a comedy:
“You will definitely laugh a lot, you will cover your eyes a few times, you will be on the edge of your seat. So, it’s kind of all that put into one.”
On horror films:
“I like horror films… it’s fun when you’re scared and you jump into your friends lap screaming. I get scared pretty easily… When that music starts and you don’t know what’s behind the corner and you’re anticipating it, but you don’t want to…”
On what she’s afraid of:
I’m terrified of rats. When I first moved [to New York] and my call time for work would be like 4:00 in the morning – so it’s still dark out – I lived on a small street so the van couldn’t come pick me up in front. I’d have to walk to the corner and I’d put my iPod on and stomp down the street because I’d be so scared that they’d running out. I’m deathly scared of them. I don’t know why because they are more scared of us, but they freak me out. I think they’re gross.”
On working with an all-star cast that includes Elisabeth Shue, Christopher Lloyd, Jerry O’Connell, Richard Dreyfuss:
“It was amazing to work with this incredible cast. Most of my scenes were with Jerry O’Connell, who is just hilarious the entire time. There were scenes I couldn’t get through because I was laughing so hard. Back to the Future I loved, so I’m like, ‘Oh my God! That’s the Doc!’ Adventures in Babysitting, I was a big fan of. It’s a classic, so it was neat to work with Elisabeth Shue.”

Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr takes a break from the Upper East Side to star in the newest thriller Piranha 3D.
Jessica plays the role of Kelly who heads to Lake Victoria with friends for a spring break they may never forget. Once an underwater tremor sets loose a school of fierce and hungry piranhas, a group of teenagers have much more to worry about then your regular hangover.
Starring alongside Jessica are Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Elisabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss and Jerry O’Connell. Piranha 3D hits theaters August 20th
With a movie like Piranha 3D, it’ s pretty safe to assume you know what you’ re going to get.
In fact, if there were any doubt, director Alexandre Aja recently described the film as a mix between Gremlins, Weird Science and Dead Alive.
“It is funny,” exclaimed star Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl) from Manhattan. “I think you’ ll laugh, you’ ll be very scared and entertained — it’ s a scary, funny, summer popcorn movie.”
Even the studio’ s marketing department has picked up on Piranha 3D’ s potential as a fun summer movie. The film’ s poster fittingly pays homage to Steven Spielberg’ s classic Jaws but while that 1975 thriller featured a menacing shark, Piranha 3D stars a mutated form of nasty omnivorous freshwater fish.
“(The filmmakers) based it off a prehistoric piranha, so it’ s not like your modern-day piranha, and they kind of decided to make it look like what they thought a prehistoric one would look like,” said Szohr. Indeed, the species in the thriller is definitely bigger, uglier and much nastier — especially in 3-D. “It’ ll be fun (to see) with the piranhas popping out at you and all the craziness that goes on.”
Presumably, Hollywood will be banking on flesh-eating fish to have the same effect Jaws had on audiences more than 30 years ago — fear of the water. Even more than three-dimensional seafood, that natural phobia may be the true potency of Piranha 3D.
“We don’ t know what’ s going on (underwater). You can’t see and you can only go under for so long if you want to check out what’ s going on. It’ s just a whole mystery of what is there,” said Szohr with a dramatic pause. “…Or what’ s not.”
